About this wine.

Our Szentesi Red is an Etyek-Buda Laska 2023, a rare red sourced from József Szentesi's Szentesi Pince and made from a grape that very nearly disappeared. Deeply coloured and reminiscent of a young Bordeaux, it brings blackcurrant and blackberry, a touch of black pepper and gentle tannins, made with minimal intervention and spontaneous fermentation. One of the best reds we tasted in Hungary.

Why We Selected This Region

Hungary has one of Europe's oldest winemaking cultures and a treasure chest of native grapes found nowhere else. In the hills west of Budapest, granitic soils and a Mediterranean-style microclimate give wines with elegant, fresh acidity. For Chateau Noble, it's the perfect place to show what Hungary's rediscovered grapes can do.

Chateau Noble Selection & Provenance

Produced by Szentesi Pince in Etyek-Buda, Hungary, this wine forms part of the Chateau Noble collection, showcasing wines from some of the world's most respected wine-growing regions.

József Szentesi is one of the key figures in Hungary's search for its lost grape varieties and a winner of the Winemaker of Winemakers award. Laska was almost wiped out by phylloxera; József found some of the last surviving vines at the wine research institute in Pécs and replanted them in his own vineyard. In the cellar, everything centres on the grape: minimal intervention and spontaneous fermentation.
